Pi, which is often represented by the Greek letter π, represents the ratio of a circles circumference to its diameter. It is an irrational number, meaning its decimal is infinite and its exact value cannot be determined. Pi is the most recognized mathematical constant around the world, and is also referenced in popular culture, including in Carl Sagan’s novel, Contact. Theoretical physicist Albert Einstein was born on this day in 1879, while the Theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking died on this day just last year (2018).
